Pale Blue Sprigs of Blossom . . . Rosemary

Dec 05, 2024

Rosemary essential oil, a unique ingredient in many of PHYTO5’s holistic and Swiss-made Winter energetic skincare products and hair care line, works on the deepest levels of our physical vitality to present radiant skin and hair. It also works just as potently on the analytical mind!

Rosemary essential oil contains anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic and antimutagenic rosmarinic acid.

Considered a warming herb, it promotes blood circulation to the head and throughout the entire body and has a stimulating, thus detoxifying effect on the lymphatic system.

The rosemary plant is native to the Mediterranean area. Widely used in food and medicine, the essential oil has a pungent, fresh and very pleasant herbaceous fragrance. Often found growing on the sea cliffs of Southern France, it has often been described as having the smell of the ocean with a hint of pine which explains its genus name, Rosmarinus, translated as “dew of the sea.” It is steam-distilled from the fresh flowering tops of the herb.

During the Middle Ages, rosemary blossoms were sugared and eaten as a preventive measure against the plague. At other times, this herb was burned in hospitals to fumigate rooms and clear airborne infections. It was also an important stewing herb that kept homes smelling fresh. Rosemary was one of the ingredients in the classic sixteenth century Eau-de-Cologne, which was used for headaches and as a nerve tonic. – Sandra Kynes*
